Help!! He Won't Sleep!
Okay, here is the deal: I am a special ed teacher, I even have an emphasis in early childhood. I have taken many classes on behavior modification and thought I was getting pretty good at it, until my cute little son arrived. He is only eight months old and his manipulation skills are some of the best! He goes to bed consistently around 10:30-11:00 at night. He wakes up two to three times during the night to eat and will go right back to sleep after nursing. He then wakes up for the morning about 8:30-9:00. This schedule does not work for me! I am tired and as Johnny will attest to, quite cranky at times! Soooo, I have tried following experienced mothers advice. I have a bedtime routine and it helps but it is not getting him to bed earlier. We feed him solid food before bed and he still stays up late and wakes up multiple times. The next thing was to just put him in his bed and let him cry it out. Well that is all well and good. I could withstand the screaming bloody murder okay but a month ago or so, Johnny went in and got him and on his way out, he threw up all over Johnny and the floor. Then last night it was 10:45 and he had only been screaming for seven minutes. I went into the hall to make sure he was still breathing and I hear him throwing up all over himself and the bed. He then started to gag because he was on his back when he threw up. I couldn't leave him in his crib in throw up for multiple reasons. When I got him out, he was shaking so much I almost dropped him. He wouldn't stop shaking like he was terrified. We have put night lights in his room and I promise I have never beaten him. He is asleep now, miracle of miracles and it is only 9:46! I worked really hard at getting him to not take an evening nap! What do I do? I don't want him to aspirate vomit, but at the same time, sleep is so precious to me! HELP ME!!!

Oh my goodness-- when I saw your ticker on your blog I thought for a minute you were pregnant! :)
Anyway, this story scares me...LOL! Welcome to parenthood, I guess! I wish I had some good advice but we are not experts, obviously...just PRAY! Heavenly Father will tell you what to do! Oh, and you guys are so nice to want to help us. I'm sure we will get things all together. I am just impatient and a worrier-- good combo! Anyway, we have registries at Target and Babies R Us but I am not even sure I put stuff on there that we need. I really have no clue what I am doing! :)
Hey EmilY! That's not fun! Lily wouldn't sleep through the night either, the pediatrician told me that I had created that habit for her. He said after six months they are only eating at night out of habit and not necessity. So he told me to cut back night feedings one by one. So that's what I did and for the last month she has slept straight through the night. Although I'm not sure about the throwing up! That's terrible! But maybe give that a try. He told me unless there was something wrong there should be no reason that I am losing sleep at night. ALthough, he's a guy, what do guys know, right?? ha ha! j/k. I don't know... GOOD LUCK!
Good luck with your sleep. We let our little lady dictate our sleep schedule. She goes to bed when we do comes into bed with us at some point in the night and I sleep in with her until she wakes up. This get's us enough sleep we go to bed at 9:30-10 ish and get up at 8ish. We also are believers in a pacifier it calms her down when she's really upset and prevents gagging when crying. I hope you find something that works for you.
